Retirement & Técnico Leadership Transition Announcement Letter from Ray Wittersheim
Técnico‘s outgoing President and CEO, Ray Wittersheim shared the following message today:
June 7, 2024
Dear Valued Partners and Friends,
It is with a deep sense of gratitude and a touch of nostalgia that I announce my retirement as President & CEO of Técnico Corporation. After nearly 30 years with Técnico, and 19 years with Norshipco, totaling almost 50 years in the industry, it’s time for me to pass the baton and begin a new chapter in my life.
On July 19, 2024, I’ll start my transition towards retirement, remaining in a consulting role to ensure a seamless handover and continued support until my official retirement effective December 31, 2024. Reflecting on my journey with Técnico, I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together. Since I joined on October 31, 1994, I have had the privilege to work alongside a remarkable team, and together, utilizing the building blocks put in place by our founder, Rafael Torrech and his son Michael Torrech, our second President, we have grown Técnico into a well-known and well respected marine and industrial contractor.
One of the most significant milestones during my tenure was ensuring that Técnico had a clear path forward, exemplified by the acquisition of Propulsion Controls Engineering (PCE). This strategic move has strengthened our position in the ship repair and maintenance marketplace while allowing us to maintain our status a Small Business within the industry. With our complementary skill sets, this partnership is set for continued success, benefiting both Técnico’s employee-owners and PCE’s employee-owners. Together, Técnico and PCE will keep the fleet mission-ready. This acquisition is a proud part of my legacy, reflecting our dedication to growth and excellence and securing a bright and sustainable future for Técnico.
Leadership Transition
As part of this transition, I am pleased to announce that Mr. Mark L. Oakley, formerly our Chief Operating Officer, has succeeded me as Técnico’s President and CEO. Mark, who has been a cornerstone of Técnico since 1990, exemplifies the leadership, vision, and commitment that define our company. I am confident that he will continue to steer Técnico with the same passion and dedication.
Additionally, our Vice President of Operations, Danny Oertel, will also be transitioning into retirement by the end of this year. Danny’s over 21 years of dedicated service have been invaluable, and his transition to a consulting role starting on June 7, 2024, will enable us to benefit from his expertise until his official retirement on December 31, 2024.
Commitment to Unwavering Dedication & Continued Prosperity
I want to assure you that this leadership change will not disrupt our operations. Técnico remains steadfast in our commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable services, ensuring our partnerships continue to thrive. Our mission to innovate and uphold the highest standards of service and integrity will guide us forward.
As I step into retirement, I carry with me countless memories and an immense sense of pride in our accomplishments. While I will no longer be at the helm, my belief in Técnico’s bright future remains strong, and I will continue to support the company as needed during this transition, and into the future.
Thank you for your unwavering support and for being a part of Técnico’s journey. I am confident that under Mark’s capable leadership, Técnico will continue to prosper and evolve.
Sincerely,
Ray Wittersheim
