Shipfitting | Structural
Shipfitters, a structural discipline, oversee the assembly and installation of vital ship components. Their expertise lies in working with metal and constructing essential elements like bulkheads and frames, ensuring the overall stability and integrity of the vessel.
Our shipfitters handle the maintenance, installation, modification, and repair of various interior and exterior components, including foundations, bulkheads, doors, decks, hatches, superstructure, tanks, sea chests, sponsons, and deck houses.
Equipped with skills in cutting (gas, arc, and shear), rolling, shaping, grinding, and fitting steel plates and shapes, our shipfitters ensure precision and efficiency in their work. They proficiently lay out and fabricate metal structural parts within the vessel’s hull, utilizing a range of specialized tools such as shears, punches, drill presses, bending rolls, bending slabs, furnaces, saws, and metal presses.
Additionally, they demonstrate expertise in Oxygen Acetylene cutting procedures and possess the ability to tack weld. Their typical tasks include preparing plates for shearing, planning and bench planning, handling angles for punching and shearing, creating collars and brackets for installation, and working on various other structural components. From installing deck ladders, fittings for riggings, and mooring equipment to handling fabrication tasks like plumbing transverse bulkheads and lifting shell frames from vessels, our shipfitters are skilled in a variety of essential operations.
Sheet Metal Fabrication & Installation

Sheet Metal Fabrication & Installation
Técnico specializes in comprehensive sheet metal fabrication and installation services, excelling in a diverse range of structural processes. Our workforce is highly skilled and proficient in shaping, bending, cutting, and modeling various types of sheet metal, including steel and aluminum sheets. Additionally, we handle the rolling, shaping, grinding, fitting, and brazing of aluminum and steel sheeting, square tubing, I-Beams, angle bar stock, round bar stock, square bar stock, and hex bar stock, working with various media, including Monel, aluminum, brass, copper-nickel, copper, and other metals.
We are dedicated to fabricating and installing custom-made products for the commercial and government ship repair industry. Our comprehensive services encompass the removal, alteration, repair, and installation of a wide array of components, such as ventilation ducting, berthing and messing equipment, partitions, racks, shelving and bin storage, galley and refrigerated space equipment, joiner doors, and bulkheads.
Welding

Welding
Técnico maintains robust welding capabilities for both shop and downriver operations, equipped with a diverse range of welding equipment to support all approved procedures. Our Welding Shop provides crucial support to our Shipfitter/Structural, Sheet Metal, and Pipe Shops, facilitating the installation, removal, upgrade, and fabrication of vessels’ structures and distribution systems.
Regularly performed welding tasks include; plate welding (ABS and Mil-Standard), shape welding (steel and aluminum), sheet metal (steel and aluminum), piping joints and fitting welding, and alloy welding processes including everything from Structural Crack Repair to Fabrication of Aluminum Superstructures.
Our welders are well-versed in various marine welding methods, such as Arc, Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Submerged Arc, Carbon Arc, and Gas (Oxy-Acetylene). Moreover, they conduct essential procedures such as pre- and post-heating, induction heating, surface hardening, stress relieving, and welding inspections, while also performing soldering and brazing operations.

Our qualified welding processes encompass FCAW, GMAW, GMAWS, GTAW, SAW, SMAW, and SW, complying with standards set by the U.S. Navy, ABS, and Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Approved Welding Procedures, among others. Our NDT inspectors, reporting separately to the QA staff, conduct meticulous shop and shipboard quality inspections to further enhance our service quality.
Pipefitting

Pipefitting
Técnico’s Pipe Shop capabilities include bending, targeting, templating, fitting, testing, stress relieving, flushing, and threading all kinds of pipe, including brazing, for systems including liquid, steam, gas and semi-solid.
We are highly skilled in pipe system design, fabrication and installation with the highest quality standards. Our team is specialized in:
- Fabrication and installation of sanitation and sewage systems
- Fabrication and installation of AFFF, JP5, Fireman, and Salt Water systems
- Mechanical installation and testing of valves, drains, scuppers, tank systems
- Hydraulic, air and water systems throughout the ship spaces
Our pipefitters have the training and experience to:
- Perform precise measurements, cuts, and assembly of pipes to ensure accurate removal, installation, repair and testing of piping systems on ships
- Die-threading of pipes
- Pipe bending IAW MIL-STD-1627
- Perform Quality Assurance testing on fabrication process & products
- Conduct thorough inspections and assessments of existing piping systems to identify any potential issues or malfunctions that require immediate attention
- Collaborate with the engineering and maintenance teams to develop effective repair and maintenance plans for shipboard piping systems
- Utilize a variety of tools, including welding equipment, grinders, pipe-cutting machines and cutting torches, to complete pipefitting tasks efficiently and according to industry standards
- Assemble of pipes and flanges by welding, brazing and swaging
- Use piping diagrams to determine angles of bends
- Interpret and follow technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to facilitate the installation and repair of complex piping networks on ship
- Conduct standard Shop Computations relating to flow, pressure and pipe size requirements
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and industry regulations to ensure a secure working environment and prevent any potential hazards or accidents during the repair process

Shop & Marine – with inside and outside machine groups, our team is prepared to address all machine repair requirements
Capabilities to perform inside and outside machine work include removing, repairing machining, testing, cleaning, hydraulic flushing and reinstalling shafting, propellers, sea chests, foundations, winches, elevators, hoists, davits, deck equipment, pumps, valves and bearings, etc.
The Inside Machine group is responsible for machining to repair mechanical equipment including shafts, pumps, valves, and reduction gears. This group utilizes various machine tools; including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and spindles. Our personnel are trained on utilizing blueprints or written specifications to close tolerances and capable in the use of precision measuring instruments, testing equipment and procedures.
Some machining practices include:
- General turning and boring of parts on a lathe
- Thread cutting and tapping
- Taper turning
- Keyway cutting
- Laying out bolt circles to drill holes
The Outside Machine group is comprised of highly skilled personnel who possess the tooling for installation and alignment.
Our Outside Machinist’s typical duties can include:
- Disassembling or dismantling valves or pumps, inspecting for wear and assessing replacement need, then re-assembling
- Installing stanchions and hand rails for gratings and ladders
- Installing piping for steam, exhaust, suction, discharge, heating, and/or refrigeration
- Dismantling, inspecting and repairing deck machinery, main engines, generator governors, and/or turbines
- Running horizontal and vertical lines for alignment of engines
- Overhauling and repairing refrigerating machinery
Additionally, the Outside Group is responsible for removal, repair, flushing, cleaning and reinstallation of shipboard valves, piping and mechanical equipment including bearings, davits, deck equipment, elevators, foundations, hoists, propellers, pumps, sea chests, shafts and winches.
If there are capabilities / facilities required for specific task order for which we are not equipped, we will solicit services from our extensive list of approved suppliers/subcontractors.

Our electricians are responsible for the assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical wiring and equipment. They conduct thorough inspections of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify potential hazards, defects, or necessary repairs.
Additionally, our electronics mechanics specialize in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of shipboard electronic equipment and systems. They perform continuity and insulation resistance checks on cabling, as well as the testing and troubleshooting of various circuit card components, transducers, and hydrophones. Furthermore, they are proficient in the manufacturing and repair of fiber optic cables and components.

Rigging

Rigging
Capabilities include assembly and installation of rigging gear such as cables, ropes, pulleys and winches to lift, lower, move or position machinery, structural steel and other heavy objects.
Our rigging professionals possess the necessary training and skills to handle complex and critical rigging challenges, from lifting and moving heavy machinery to setting up intricate rigging systems. Our riggers adhere to OSHA Rigging regulations and NAVSEA Standard Item requirements when performing rigging evolutions to ensure the safe and efficient execution of all tasks.
With a strong emphasis on precision and safety, our riggers employ industry-leading techniques to secure and maneuver loads of various sizes and complexities. They are well-versed in the use of a wide array of rigging equipment and are committed to upholding the highest standards of quality and compliance with industry regulations. Técnico offers a comprehensive range of painting and blasting capabilities, including Blasting, Coating & Painting, Powder Coating, Insulation, and Tile services.
Técnico proudly holds the SSPC-QP1 certification, ensuring high-quality standards in our operations. Our skilled painters are proficient in operating, maintaining, and cleaning various spray paint equipment, including both air and airless paint pumps, spray guns, and hoses. They possess extensive knowledge of different painting systems and are well-versed in the correct procedures for mixing single and multi-component coating systems.
Equipped with advanced skills in coating application, our painters deliver flawless coatings, free of any defects. Many of our team members hold NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector (NBPI) and NACE C-12 and C-7 certifications. Their training aligns with industry standards such as the Steel Surfaces Preparation Council (SSPC) Painting Manual, NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32, Naval Ships Technical Manual (NSTM) Chapter 631 and Chapter 634, MSC (803-7081122) General Technical Requirements (GTR), U.S. Coast Guard Standard Items, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and ASTM F-718 Paint Requirements.
In our shop, painter-blasters meticulously prepare surfaces and apply coatings for various preservation requirements, both for interior and exterior surfaces, as well as for shop applications. Their duties include abrasive blasting, needle gunning, sanding surfaces for preparation, and applying coatings such as alkyds, epoxies, and powder coatings through brushing, rolling, and spraying techniques.
Moreover, our certified tile experts possess in-depth knowledge of Navy assessment programs and extensive experience in tile removal, surface preparation, and the installation of materials.

Woodworking

Woodworking
Fully equipped to handle various finish carpentry tasks, encompassing sheet, cabinetry, bulkhead, and interior and exterior work for all marine vessel types. Equipped with a diverse range of tools, our shop facilitates woodworking and composite work through the use of manual and pneumatic joiners, planers, drill presses, table saws, and an array of hand tools.
Our collection of tools includes a circular saw, chisels, gouges, routers, hammers of various types, mallets, band saws, drills, compound meter saws, orbital sanders, jigsaws, table saws, drill presses, screwdrivers of various types, and planers. Additionally, our shop is equipped with specialized machinery such as a platen press for laminating and producing composites, as well as a Flow Waterjet CNC for precise cutting of composites. We also have a panel saw for added versatility in our carpentry operations.
